Want To Be the Hero With Zero? It's Easy With These New Calix Automation Capabilities

Operations teams are used to being asked to do more with less. They are under pressure to reduce costs and dispatch fewer trucks, while at the same time supporting ever more complex services and increasing subscriber demands. This is why automation can be transformative. It can increase speed to market for exciting new services. But it also means operations teams spend less time configuring, managing, and troubleshooting the network.

However, broadband service providers (BSPs) need the right tools to effectively implement automation techniques. That’s why Calix continues to build automation capabilities into Calix Operations Cloud (Operations Cloud). These capabilities can be applied across a BSP’s entire subscriber-facing network—from the access edge to the subscriber premises. For example, Operations Cloud now allows BSPs to:

  • Automate end-to-end service provisioning. Automation and guided workflows enable BSPs to reduce the time it takes to activate new services by 67 percent. Automated provisioning also dramatically reduces instances of human error.

  • Activate exciting new managed services with ease. Automated provisioning is not limited to just voice and data services. Operations Cloud can now instantly activate an array of exciting managed services—everything from home network security (ProtectIQ®), to connected wireless security camera systems (Arlo Secure), to community-wide Wi-Fi (Calix SmartTown™).

  • Automate network event notifications. Teams can now be automatically notified of threshold-crossing events such as ONT light levels and PON errors—and react quickly.

  • Monitor network health from a single screen. No more “swivel chairing” between different screens and systems. Enhancements to the network health user interface in Operations Cloud means comprehensive health reports are instantly available.

Become a Giant in Your Market Using Operations Automation

Innovative BSPs that are leveraging these automation capabilities are winning in their markets—even when they’re competing head-to-head with telco and cable industry giants. One such provider is Sterling Local Area Municipal Broadband (LAMB) of Sterling, Massachusetts—the winner of the “Giant of Operations” award in the 2022 Calix Customer Innovations Awards

By using Operations Cloud on top of the Calix Intelligent Access EDGE platform, Sterling LAMB was able to deliver a seamless, super-fast service turnup. In fact, it was able to reduce provisioning times by 67 percent compared to before. This included activating new managed services such as ExperienceIQ® online parental controls and ProtectIQ® network security.

This is a great example of how operations teams can do less—but accomplish more—thanks to the power of end-to-end, cloud-based automation. By delivering on the objectives of zero human error, zero-touch provisioning, and improved network performance, your operations team can become the hero with zero.
