Why I Love Calix: Learning That Never Stops

I’ve been a quality engineer for over twenty years now and have developed strong knowledge in statistical data analysis, problem solving methodologies, risk management, and reliability. Every one of these skill sets allowed me to learn even more—and I evolved in each role to get to where I am today.

At Calix, I’ve been working on Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and Multiple Environment Overstress Test (MEOST). Both encourage out-of-the-box thinking that cultivates an engineer’s mind to innovate. These projects involve plenty of research and agility. Just when one project ends, another begins—and so does our exploration into the next use case.

What’s different at Calix? Learning that never stops.

This type of constant learning is something that means a lot to me. In my career, I’ve welcomed new procedures and skills at every turn. This makes me a great fit at Calix, where you join a team of inquisitive, resourceful, and reliable people that collaborate constantly to make things better.

I have never liked being bored in a job or feeling stuck. Certainly, we all will eventually hit roadblocks on projects—that's just the nature of this type of work. However, it’s what we do with those roadblocks that makes all the difference.

At Calix, we are encouraged to embrace new methodologies and strategies that align with our overall goals. If there’s a new way to do something, or even just a unique way, we take a closer look at that process. We don’t want to dismiss anything simply because it challenges an older method. As a team, we all take initiative to learn new things and bring this knowledge back to the broader group. This is in alignment with my philosophy on work—and learning new things sets me up for continued growth in my career.

How does my future look at Calix? Mature and establish quality initiatives—and set up best practices and KPIs.

There’s so much opportunity here at Calix. As I think about my future career, I know that I want to continue helping connect the world by making Wi-Fi accessible for everyone.

In the short term, I plan on maturing the quality initiatives that I’m working on—DFMEA and MEOST—and I want to establish more just like them. Additionally, I hope to help set up best practices for product development, as well as KPIs and metrics that can help us know when we’ve succeeded.

At Calix, I have a lot of runway to grow in my career and take on more projects that I enjoy. It’s an exciting time to be on the team.
