Keeping Families Safe and Connected: A Story of the Storsveen Family

value-based managed services for family safety

My family was recently in a minor car accident. Thankfully, no one was injured. Reflecting afterward, I am grateful that I prioritized safety when purchasing my family’s latest vehicle. Safety features aren’t flashy, but they are powerful when you need them. They can transform a potentially catastrophic scenario into a minor inconvenience.

We are a family of four living in a small Florida beach town. Like many families, we are always on the go, juggling work, school, and extracurricular activities. We are constantly driving to recitals or practice, answering emails before dinner, and helping the kids with online school projects.

As parents, we worry about the safety of our kids. And while it’s easy to understand road safety—fasten your seatbelts, drive the speed limit, put the phones down—many parents may not be so sure how to protect themselves and their kids online. They need help, and their broadband service provider (BSP) has all the necessary tools.

As a family, we prioritize safety, especially for our kids. Whether shopping for a car or an internet package, most families make purchasing decisions based on features that provide a safe, reliable experience. With value-based offering strategies focused on the needs of families, BSPs can deliver the exact features parents and kids need.

Value-based offerings allow parents to choose internet services based on much more than the table stakes of fast internet. Packages like a “Guardian Plan” can include managed services vital to keeping families safe online, including software that stops malicious cyberattacks, a mobile app to configure and enhance their digital experience, and parental controls allowing Mom and Dad to monitor their children’s internet usage.

Of course, families want their high-quality, safe internet to extend beyond their front door. Luckily the package includes community Wi-Fi—they can check email, stream, and upload photos anywhere within their BSP’s coverage area.

Internet Without Security Is Unsafe at Any Speed

Seatbelts are effective safety measures because of their simplicity. One click and the chances of injury on the road reduce dramatically. Simplicity is the key to offering secure connectivity. Bundling managed services into value-based offerings allows BSPs to target subscribers based on how they use the internet. Of course, families aren’t the only internet users. Gamers want similar offerings that feature low latency, while work-from-home professionals need to prioritize productivity applications in cases where the network becomes overloaded.

A family offering could also include home security cameras for enhanced home monitoring and Bark parental controls that keep kids safe online and off—monitoring their social media and text messages and even providing parents driving summaries to protect kids from danger. By creating packages based on services families use, BSPs can move away from outdated speed-based packages and offer meaningful value for their subscribers.

Think about it this way. Modern cars are much faster than they were in the “greaser” days of the ’50s, when everyone wanted to drive as fast as they could. But back then no one cared about seatbelts, speed limits, or even infant car seats. Cars are even faster today than they were in the mid-20th century, but you rarely see an ad that touts the speed of a family car. You see security features, safety ratings, and tech innovations that make driving more enjoyable. You see what matters most to the consumer.

BSPs can create the internet of the future, one where the features are just as important as the speed and reliability of their network. Like a mom who chooses an SUV that will keep their kids safe, you can create value-based offerings that speak to reliability and the specific concerns of your subscribers.
