How do you serve thousands of customers spread over 15,000 square miles, with a team of just 15 people? How do you offer them high-speed Internet service, telephone, and video, in a way that results in a minimum number of service calls and truck rolls, even for installation? ZIRKEL Wireless transmits high-speed broadband wireless Internet service over 22 towers to its customers spread over 15,000 square miles in and around Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Their system broadcasts over the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz channels—the same channels used by Wi-Fi—so they have to be able to control spectrum at each subscriber’s endpoint, allowing them to steer 5 GHz transmissions away from their usage channels. They also need to be able to provide each subscriber with a simple plug-and-play solution that can be picked up from a depot or delivered by a courier, plugged in, connected and used with little to no technical support.

The Calix GigaCenter is so easy to install and use, customers seldom (if ever) call for any help. Calix Support Cloud makes it simple for ZIRKEL Wireless to offer a fully managed service that customers are happy to pay $12 a month to receive and that many of them call "the best Internet service we've ever had." Even a multi dwelling unit customer that upgraded to the new solution has reported that its residents are thrilled.

ZIRKEL Wireless now saves $30,000 to $40,000 per year in truck rolls and labor costs. Add the ability to offer voice and video services, and the company can grow ARPU with each subscriber.
