NG-PON2: A Reality!

We’ve been talking about NG-PON2 it seems for years, but 2017 has seen NG-PON2 become a reality. In my last blog, you heard from Julie Kunstler of Ovum about some of the technical advancements of NG-PON2 over the course of 2017. But it was also a major year for the deployment of AXOS enabled NG-PON2. Not only is AXOS deployed in many service provider networks worldwide, but AXOS has also enabled the rapid deployment of NG-PON2 as well. With Northpower in New Zealand deploying the world's first NG-PON2 subscriber on a live network and then Manhattan's Pilot taking it to a whole new level shows you why AXOS is critical to making your business a success.

AXOS and NG-PON2 technology brings to service providers multiple capabilities including wavelength mobility and channel bonding. Wavelength mobility enables the ability to converge residential, business, and mobile networks onto a single ODN, while channel bonding helps to future proof the service by allowing the addition of wavelengths to expand the available bandwidth.

AXOS takes the possibilities to a whole new level with the ability to automate, instrument, and simplify the network. Have you thought about what it would be like if you didn't need to worry about maintenance windows to add new capabilities to your network to start generating new revenue? What about the ability to solve critical service issues from the warmth of the central office while avoiding costly truck rolls? Or even have the network heal itself?  We’ll show you more about how AXOS can enable these great abilities in upcoming blogs.

In the meantime, did you know you can get AXOS and NG-PON2 now in the Calix AXOS E-Series portfolio? Calix is shipping both the E9-2 Intelligent Edge System and the E7-2 Intelligent Modular System with line cards supporting both AXOS XGS-PON and AXOS NG-PON2.
