Fiber Innovator SandyNet Delivers Next Generation Gigabit Experience with Calix AXOS Gfast and GPON Solutions

PETALUMA, CA – March 8, 2018 – Calix, Inc. (NYSE: CALX), today announced SandyNet, the city of Sandy, Oregon's municipal broadband utility, has deployed Calix AXOS Gfast and GPON solutions to extend the next generation gigabit experience to both single-family residences and multi-dwelling unit (MDU) buildings throughout the city. By utilizing AXOS Gfast E3-16F Sealed DPU Nodes, SandyNet has opened new market opportunities and taken advantage of the benefits of AXOS with rapid installation and activation of services in MDU locations not served by fiber to quickly gain new subscribers. With the Gfast locations in place, SandyNet is also expanding AXOS across its existing GPON network for residential broadband services via the Calix E7-2 Intelligent Modular System.

“As a long-time Calix customer, we have seen the benefits of Calix innovations like the GigaCenters, which have delivered exceptional service inside our subscribers' homes," said Joe Knapp, general manager at SandyNet. "Now, by beginning the deployment of AXOS in our Gfast locations, we have once again been able to take advantage of Calix innovations. For example, the instrumentation enabled through AXOS allows us to quickly turn up services and perform real-time upgrades without maintenance windows to give our subscribers an always-on broadband experience. With AXOS available on the Calix E7-2, which we have widely deployed across our network, we look forward to seeing those same benefits for all our subscribers.”

Calix AXOS Gfast solutions have a history of delivering market-leading innovations, as demonstrated by the recent recognition of achieving finalist status in the 2018 Lightwave Innovation Reviews program. The unique capabilities found in the Calix AXOS Gfast systems like cDTA, bonding, and mesh vectoring allow service providers like SandyNet to optimize the broadband services they can offer to subscribers over both existing copper and coaxial cable subscriber lines. cDTA enables symmetrical gigabit services with Gfast and puts service providers in a leadership position against their competition as they can exceed the speeds of DOCSIS-based offerings. While cDTA delivers speed advantages to subscribers, AXOS, the world’s only SDA, delivers performance advantages as the self-healing capabilities of the platform keep services Always On and eliminate unnecessary service calls and technician visits.

“MDUs have proven to be a great opportunity for service providers like SandyNet to quickly expand their addressable market, and with Calix AXOS Gfast solutions, they can increase their reach to these new potential subscribers with minimal investment,” said Michael Weening, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Calix. “With the addition of AXOS to their network, SandyNet can accelerate the time it takes to reach this new market, while simplified operations enable faster installations and system turn up. In a matter of hours, entire buildings can take advantage of gigabit services. And as SandyNet looks ahead to expanding AXOS across their network, all of their subscribers can reap the benefits of the Always On services the platform enables.”
