City of Pharr: From worst-connected to fiber-powered municipal broadband

Once ranked the worst-connected city in the United States, the City of Pharr launched a municipal broadband network to deliver affordable internet as a community utility—a model that accelerated both adoption and growth.

With funding secured by the mayor and construction underway across three neighborhood zones, Pharr has achieved a 50 percent take rate and continues to expand. By partnering with Calix and leveraging Calix Success™, the city trained staff to confidently manage a highly technical environment and gained a single point of contact for any technical issues—eliminating the need to manage multiple vendors. The result is a sustainable, future-ready fiber foundation that puts residents first.
