CopperCom and Calix Join Forces to Promote H.248-Based Networking Solutions

CHICAGO (SUPERCOM 2005, Booths 54005 and 51000), June 7, 2005 - CopperCom and Calix announced today that they have agreed to work on the implementation, interoperability and delivery of H.248 access and switching solutions to meet the unique needs of wireline service providers deploying next-generation communications services. The companies will work closely on the interoperability of H.248 broadband service signaling on their respective products to ensure seamless interworking for customers deploying next-generation networks.

Calix and CopperCom are a natural fit, with Calix leading in ultra-broadband fiber and copper-access solutions and CopperCom leading in next-generation soft switching solutions. Both companies share a common customer set and vision—delivering the highest value switch-based services over the most advanced broadband infrastructure.

H.248 is a standard protocol supported by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) that provides the signaling and session management for voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services. By cooperating on the interoperability of H.248 solutions on their respective platforms, Calix and CopperCom ensure that customers deploying either platform have a seamless path to the future for broadband services.

"Working with CopperCom is a natural step for us," said Rick Johnston, vice president of business development at Calix. "We have many common customers, and we are both dedicated to serving our market with the highest level of service and reliability that our customers demand. The CopperCom platform is widely deployed among wireline service providers, and we look forward to defining the future with them."

"We are extremely pleased to be working with Calix," said Bob Kersey, vice president, product management at CopperCom. "We have already worked with Calix and the C7 platform on legacy interfaces. Making the move concurrently to H.248 gives our customers the confidence that they can deploy a broadband services infrastructure with the knowledge that the access and switching parts of that network are ready to deploy value-added services".

CopperCom and Calix work with each other's equipment in their respective labs, and have aligned their product and development roadmaps to deliver H.248 to their customer base.
