I’m excited to introduce you to Dean Day – Partner Program Senior Director. Dean has extensive experience working with and within the service provider community and in particular, establishing and nurturing relationships with the Consulting Engineer (CE), system integrator, and Value Add Reseller (VAR) communities. Dean's primary role at Calix will be to work closely with these important business partners as their advocate within Calix and to manage our partner program.
Dean has held senior roles at a number of technology companies including global start-ups and a consulting engineering firm. He lives in Cookeville, TN and is eager to meet with all of our CE, system integration, and VAR partners.
Juan: Welcome to Calix, Dean! Tell me a little about yourself and your background prior to joining us.
Dean: I was born and raised in Sparta, Tennessee and I graduated from Tennessee Technological University. I am married and we have one dog, a spoiled Cocker Spaniel named Emma. I have been in the telecommunications industry longer than I want to admit, but I will say that I remember the Stromberg-Carlson XY switch early in my career. I started my career as an installer for Volunteer Communications. Shortly after, I joined Northern Telecom with the enticement of working on this new “fiber optics” technology and worked there almost 18 years. After Nortel, I worked at various companies such as Movaz Networks, Coppercom, MRV, CHR Solutions, Cyan, Hitachi, and Tejas Networks. I am a rabid Tennessee Volunteers fan, love history, travel, and collecting football cards.
Juan: Why did you join Calix and what role will you now be playing as part of the Calix team?
Dean: Calix is a company that I have long admired in the telecommunications market space. I wanted to be part of a dynamic, growing company that offers its customers the latest in both hardware and software technology. Having worked for start-ups, I knew I wanted to join a company where I can play an outsized role in its growth and success. I will be working with Calix partners and the consulting engineering community as their advocate and working to satisfy their business and solution awareness needs.
Juan: What are you most excited about in this new role?
Dean: I am most excited about this new role as a chance to be on the cutting edge of technological advancements as part of the Calix team. I believe we have only skimmed the surface with regards to Managed Wi-Fi, the connected Smart Home, telemedicine, network automation and other emerging technologies. I am looking forward to being part of a world-class innovator that places careful attention to its business and consulting engineering partners. Every one of our business and CE partners has unique needs and I’m excited to get started.
Juan: Tell us something about yourself that we don’t know
Dean: I’m a part time fashion model. As part of the Chestnut Square Historical Village’s advertising campaign for their annual “Ghost Walk”, I was photographed professionally wearing my 1880’s “man about town” outfit. The photo was published in both the Dallas Morning News and the local McKinney, Texas magazine.
