The Calix C7 Multiservice Access Platform (MSAP)
The Calix C7 is a highly integrated, high capacity multiprotocol platform that combines access and transport technologies with high-density fiber and copper connectivity in the same chassis. The EXA Powered C7 facilitates network evolution with support for 10GE transport, VDSL2, GPON, and Ethernet access, and a broad suite of traditional services with SONET and copper-based line cards.
Rather than force communications service providers (CSPs) to deploy complex combinations of service delivery platforms, the C7 is designed to simplify and streamline access network engineering by combining the latest deployable Ethernet standards including ITU G.8032 ERPS 10GE ring transport, MEF 9 and 14, and full 802.1q VLAN range support with traditional telephony services like span-powered T1s and HDSL that continue to deliver a major contribution to CSP network margins.
GPON and VDSL2 Density
Utilizing an innovative socket-based design, up to 20 EXA Powered OLTG-4E line cards can be deployed in a C7 chassis to serve as many as 5120 ONTs at a 64:1 split ratio. If that isn't enough, up to five C7 shelves can be installed in the typical 7-foot telecommunications equipment rack to serve 25,600 ONTs. Any mix of standard and Extended Reach GPON optical interface modules can be provisioned on the OLTG-4E for the extensive engineering flexibility in meeting service requirements.
For copper networks, Calix introduces the EXA Powered COMBO2-24V and VDSL2-24, bringing high density VDSL2 services with bonding and ADSL2+ fallback to access networks. Up to 480 circuits of VDSL2 can be deployed in a single 8RU, 19-inch C7 shelf, or up to 2400 circuits per 7-foot rack. With integrated 10GE transport, these features combine to form a powerful and highly competitive services platform.
And of course the C7 supports hybrid network deployments, greatly expanding the service capabilities of existing copper networks with VDSL2 line cards and growing new fiber networks with OLTG-4E line cards all in the same chassis.
