B6 Ethernet Service Access Node (ESAN)

The B6 Ethernet Service Access Node (ESAN) delivers field proven pure Ethernet services, and simplifies copper and fiber broadband deployments. The B6 chassis is hardened and available in 12 slot (B6-012), 6 slot (B6-006), or 1 slot (B6-001) increments, enabling communications service provider (CSP) deployment flexibility from the central office to the remote node. Each B6 chassis features an intelligent interconnect architecture, further simplifying broadband deployments and enabling flexibility. The B-Series combines distributed traffic processing with high capacity line card interconnects, delivering topology scalability and flexibility regardless of deployment size. In addition, distributed traffic processing effectively eliminates the need for common equipment, while simplifying network and service expansion. The B6 intelligent interconnect allows line cards to be connected through the integrated Ethernet backplane of the B6-006 and B6-012i, or by direct cabling between B6-012 line cards or multiple B6-001 chassis.

The B-Series Is Managed by OccamView EMS

OccamView™ is the element management system used for Calix B-Series ESANs. It provides advanced management features to make managing and operating B-Series ESANs easy and convenient:

  • Service Activation. OccamView provides tools to manage subscribers and associate subscribers with services, ports, devices. It also supports a transaction-based model for service activation that provides rollback and failure notification if any of the provisioning steps fail, thus preventing the proliferation of incorrect configurations and incorrectly allocated ports and circuits.
  • Inventory Management. OccamView simplifies inventory management with its network and device discovery capability. It identifies B-Series devices and their associated physical and logical attributes by their IP addresses.
  • Fault Management. An alarm window displays network-wide faults/events, color-coded based on alarm severity level. Faults can also be viewed via a topology map of the network, allowing administrators to focus on the problem regions immediately. Details and notes that are recorded while the alarm is open are available for each event and network device. Various filters based on location, severity and device qualifications can be set to define alarm actions, to determine who sees alarms, and to manage contact closures in the CO.
  • Event Management. OccamView provides flexible event templates with threshold qualifiers that determine when and how network events are turned into alarms. OccamView defines a variety of event sources such as Java RMI events and SNMP traps and can be customized to support other event notifications.
