ToledoTel Deploys Calix 844G GigaCenter for Superior Gigabit Service Experience

PHOENIX – March 9, 2015 – Calix, Inc. (NYSE: CALX) today announced that ToledoTel has deployed the Calix 844G GigaCenters in its rapidly expanding, gigabit services capable FiberNet serving area. A family-owned ILEC in the shadows of Mt. Saint Helens in southern Washington, ToledoTel’s ambitious fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) initiative is leveraging the 844G GigaCenters to offer a powerful gigabit experience to its device-enabled subscribers over both gigabit passive optical network (GPON) and Carrier Class Wi-Fi technologies to more than 30 new premises per week. The company is currently in the process of pulling fiber and bringing its FiberNet service experience to all subscribers in its service area by the end of 2015.

“We polled our subscribers, and found that Wi-Fi performance is of paramount importance to them,” said Dale Merten, Chief Operating Officer of ToldeoTel. “The Calix GigaCenters have brought our customers significantly enhanced throughput and Wi-Fi coverage over previous generations of Wi-Fi technology, allowing us to bring a world-class subscriber experience to our area. Next, we are looking forward to adding Calix Compass Consumer Connect software to our network – not only facilitating our ability to remotely monitor and manage the subscriber’s Wi-Fi performance across each connected device, but also offering us a great platform for introducing new advanced, cloud-enhanced broadband services and features in the future.”

One of the pioneers in embracing over-the-top video services as an extension of its broadband service offering, ToldeoTel has broadly deployed Roku streaming TV and media players across its footprint as part of its “Premium” services package. Now, with the Carrier Class Wi-Fi performance of the 844G GigaCenters, ToledoTel will be able to wirelessly connect Roku players in the home. This Wi-Fi connected model will result in significant installation cost savings for the company, while providing a highly desirable convenience for subscribers.

GigaCenters allow service providers like ToldeoTel to strategically entrench themselves as the first connection point for device-enabled subscribers in the home. From this advantaged location, the combination of GigaCenters, Consumer Connect software, and Calix E7 Ethernet Service Access Platforms provides end-to-end subscriber experience visibility and management, and the ability to deliver new, emerging cloud-enhanced services. GigaCenters are the first fiber products in the world to unleash the power of Carrier Class Wi-Fi, delivering superior in-home wireless broadband coverage, quality of service, and speed.

“By bringing E7-based fiber infrastructure to 100 percent of its subscribers, ToledoTel is giving itself the opportunity to deliver services on a totally different level than its competition,” said John Colvin, Calix senior vice president of North American sales. “By adding GigaCenters and Compass, ToledoTel will fully leverage this infrastructure investment, and extend it to become the connection point of choice across the wireless and wireline services. ToledoTel’s FiberNet brings a world-class gigabit experience to its subscribers, and in doing so positions the company to find long-term success.”

To see the Calix family of GigaCenters on display, visit the Calix Booth (#201) this week, March 9-10, at NTCA’s Rural Telecom Industry Meeting and Expo (RTIME) in Phoenix, Arizona.
