This two-day course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and confidence to design passive optical networks—BPON as well as GPON. The first day covers PON concepts, plant considerations, and the advantages and disadvantages of various PON architectures in the real world. The second day includes hands-on design exercises, round-table discussions, and a final assessment. Passing the assessment earns you a Calix PON Design certificate.

- Engineers, planners, and network designers who want to learn how to design both BPON and GPON passive optical networks (for the Calix C7 or the F5)

- Design considerations (point to point, local convergence point, distributed split)

- PON design-topology, customer mix, revenue impacts
- Fiber to the home example PON—revenue overlay—single family and mix (SF and MDU)
- Fiber to the business example PON—revenue overlay—small business and mixed example
- Cost model roundtable discussion
- PON design exercise
- PON optical budget exercise
- PON design (actual deployment)
- Final assessment
