Calix Selects Broadcom Multimode VDSL2/ADSL2+ Chipset for VDSL2 Implementation

MARCH 27, 2008, PETALUMA, CA — Calix, leader in broadband access systems for communication service providers, today announced that its VDSL2 implementation will utilize Broadcom's powerful multimode VDSL2/ADSL2+ chipset. The Broadcom chipset supports the most advanced VDSL2 features including PTM (Packet Transfer Mode), Extended Upstream support, ADSL2+ and ADSL fallback modes on a per port basis. Broadcom's VDSL2 chipsets were originally selected by Calix for incorporation in the E-Series next generation Ethernet access products. This same technology will now be leveraged in its C-Series multiservice access platform as well. As a result of this successful engagement, Broadcom and Calix have teamed together to provide the latest VDSL2 technology to an extensive existing customer base of service providers throughout North America.

The selection by Calix of the Broadcom VDSL2 technology and the ongoing collaboration between Broadcom and Calix results in a best-in-class, standards-based solution for ITU G.992.1/3/5 ADSL1/2/2+ and ITU G.993.2 VDSL2 product offering.

Broadcom silicon and software bring advanced, standards-based solutions to the industry, addressing all aspects of sophisticated digital subscriber line (DSL)-based services and features including its newly released PhyR™ impulse noise protection technology for telco IPTV. Calix will supply central office and remote equipment based on this latest Broadcom VDSL2 technology. Broadcom's unique integration of VDSL2 technology provides a powerful blend of performance and accelerated time-to-market across the complete Calix product portfolio.

"We completed an exhaustive search for the right VDSL2 technology that would provide us with solutions for both residential and business customers," said Teresa Sperry, director of market development for multiservice over Ethernet products at Calix. "The Broadcom multimode VDSL2/ADSL2+ chipset surpasses all the first generation technologies from a performance perspective and provides a solution that enables ADSL fallback modes as well as enhanced capabilities that ensure Calix can deliver quality high-bandwidth services to its customers."

"Broadcom's adoption by Calix represents a major win in the North American market and is an outstanding example of our success in adding industry leading VDSL2 solutions to our broadly deployed and leading ADSL2+ position," said Shankar Bala, Product Group Manager of Broadcom's Broadband Carrier Access Business Unit. "Calix has very high performance standards for its vendors and is a showcase for advanced networks. Our performance, flexibility and competitiveness allow us to support Calix in meeting the demanding requirements of their customers and prospects."
