Don Listwin: Chairman
Don Listwin is founder and chairman of Canary Foundation, a non-profit organization devoted exclusively to early detection of cancer. A 25-year veteran of the technology industry, Don was CEO of Openwave from 2000 to 2004 and held senior executive positions at Cisco Systems between 1990 and 2000. Don also serves on the board of directors at Sana Security, Genologics, and Stratos Bioscience. He has previously served on the boards of Openwave, JDS Uniphase, Redback Networks, TIBCO Software, E-Tek, and the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA). Don is a member of the Board of Trustees at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle Washington. A native of Canada, Listwin holds a B.S. in electrical engineering and an honorary doctorate of law from the University of Saskatchewan.
Michael Everett: Director
Michael Everett has over 30 years of financial, legal, and general management experience, including two different stints in China. Michael currently serves as a financial executive at Cisco Systems, Inc. and was chief financial officer of WebEx Communications prior to Cisco's $3.2 billion acquisition of the web collaboration leader. Prior to joining WebEx, Michael was chief financial officer of several public and private companies, including Netro Corporation, a broadband wireless equipment manufacturer that he led through a successful IPO in 1999, and Raychem Corporation, a Fortune 500 telecommunications and electronic components supplier. Before joining Raychem in 1987, he practiced securities law as a partner at Heller, Ehrman, White & McAuliffe. Michael holds a B.A. from Dartmouth College and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
Michael Ashby: Director
Michael recently retired as CFO for Calix and remains a member of the board of directors and audit committee. Prior to Calix, Michael was vice-president of finance at Cisco, with responsibility for financial planning and investor relations. Michael joined Cisco in 1999 as a result of the acquisition of Cerent Corporation, where he was CFO. Prior to Cerent, Michael was executive vice president and CFO of Ascend Communications (later purchased by Lucent). Earlier, Michael was vice president and CFO at Pacific Bell (later purchased by SBC). Michael has also held the executive management positions of CFO, president, and CEO at Network Systems Corporation, and CFO of Teradata Corporation.
Wayne Nemeth: Partner, Sprout Group
Wayne Nemeth is Partner at the Sprout Group, the venture capital affiliate of Credit Suisse, and focuses on Communications and Enterprise Infrastructure. Wayne joined Sprout in 1998 bringing both prior operational and venture capital experience. Wayne is an experienced chairman of the board and partners with entrepreneurs to build lasting value. His current board seats include Calix, LeftHand Networks, CyOptics, and Storability. He has been involved with investments including dynamicSoft (acquired by Cisco), Internet Photonics (acquired by Ciena), mySimon (acquired by CNET), Optical Solutions (acquired by Calix), and yIPes Communications. Prior to his venture capital career, he was at Booz Allen & Hamilton, providing strategic and operational consulting to technology and manufacturing businesses. Wayne also worked for the Boeing Company as a supervisor and an engineer in aerodynamics focusing on a number of programs including the 777. Wayne earned his MBA from The Wharton School and his Bachelor of Science from the University of Pennsylvania.
Michael Flynn: Director
Michael T. Flynn has served as a director of Calix since September 2004. Most recently, Michael served as an officer of ALLTEL Corporation, an integrated telecommunications provider of wireless, local telephone, long-distance, competitive local exchange, Internet and high-speed data services. Previous positions at ALLTEL include Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer, Group President of Communications and President of the Telephone Group. Since July 2001 Mr. Flynn has served on the Board of Directors and Audit Committee of Airspan Networks, a publicly-traded company providing wireless broadband access equipment. Since January 2004 he has been a member of the Board of Directors and Audit and Compensation Committees of WebEx Communications, a publicly-traded company providing web collaboration services. Michael has also served on the Board of Directors GENBAND, and BayPackets. Michael earned his B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1970. He attended the Dartmouth Institute in 1986 and the Harvard Advanced Management Program in 1988.
Carl Russo: President and Chief Executive Officer
Carl is president and CEO of Calix and a member of the board of directors. Carl has over 25 years of experience in the networking and telecommunications industries. Prior to taking an active role with Calix in December, 2002, Carl was a member of the Calix board of directors. Before that, Carl was vice president of optical strategy and group vice president of optical networking for Cisco. Carl joined Cisco in 1999 as a result of the acquisition of Cerent Corporation, where he was president and CEO. Before Cerent, Carl was COO at Xircom (later acquired by Intel), where he was responsible for sales, marketing, development, and manufacturing of all Xircom products. Carl has also held executive management positions at Network Systems Corporation (later acquired by StorageTek) and at AT&T Paradyne. At Network Systems, Carl was the senior vice president and general manager for the Hyperchannel Networking Group, and at AT&T Paradyne he was vice president and general manager of the data networking products division. Carl sits on the board of directors for the United States Telecom Association (USTA) and the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS). Carl is an alumnus of Swarthmore College and serves on its board of trustees.
Paul Ferris: General Partner, Azure Capital Partners
Paul Ferris is a founding General Partner with Azure Capital Partners where he specializes in communications and systems technologies. His current board memberships include Calix, Crimson Microsystems, and Personeta, and he is a board observer at Medsphere. Prior to Azure, Paul worked at several investment banks, including Credit Suisse First Boston, where he was the Global Head of the Communications Investment Banking Group, and at Deutsche Bank Securities and Morgan Stanley, where he focused on communications infrastructure and hardware companies. Over the course of his career, Paul has provided strategic and investment advice to numerous leading communications companies. Paul received his B.A. degrees in Computer Science and English from Amherst College, where he graduated summa cum laude.
Geoff Yang: General Partner, Redpoint Ventures
Geoff Yang is a founding partner of Redpoint Ventures. Prior to founding Redpoint, Geoff was a general partner with IVP, a firm he joined in 1987. Geoff emphasizes investments in systems and consumer media. He was responsible for the firm's investments in Ask Jeeves, Excite, Foundry Networks, Juniper Networks, MMC Networks, MySpace, TiVo, and Wellfleet. Geoff also serves on the President's Information Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC); and was a Director of the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) and Director and past President of the Western Association of Venture Capitalists (WAVC). Prior to joining IVP, Geoff was an Associate with First Century Partners where he had specialized in communications and software investments. Earlier, Geoff had been in technical support and marketing at IBM Corp. Geoff holds a B.S.E. in Engineering and Management Systems from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
